About the SPCA
Founded in 1903 by dedicated volunteers, the Hong Kong Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was the city’s pioneering animal welfare charity. Rooted in the belief that animals, like humans, experience pain and deserve compassion, the SPCA remains committed to promoting kindness, protecting animal health, and preventing cruelty through various initiatives. With only 1% of funding from the government, the SPCA relies heavily on public support to carry out its mission, which includes rescuing, rehoming, and providing veterinary care for abandoned and injured animals, enforcing animal welfare laws, controlling populations through desexing, and advocating for improved legislation.
Through education and advocacy, the SPCA strives to cultivate a culture of respect for all animal life, working towards a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals in Hong Kong.
